Dale developed a passion for music at an early age in his hometown of Plum Coulee, a small town in southern Manitoba. His mother taught him to play the piano and encouraged him to learn the trumpet, his father taught him the value of hard work and a good business sense. After moving to Vancouver in the 80's, Dale started engineering on a host of projects at Mushroom Studios and Little Mountain Sound. These projects included Loverboy, Valdy, Jamie Walters and others. One of these projects was the highly successful Top Gun Soundtrack, which yielded Dale his first top 10 single with "Heaven In Your Eyes". These projects connected Dale with several gifted producers including David Tickle, Mike Shipley and Brian MacLeod.

It's also interesting to note that, in the 90's, in addition to producing Dale was also doing A&R for the A&M distributed label Johnny Jett Records.

In 1998, Dale received the "Producer of the Year" award at the West Coast Music Awards for his work on Holly McNarland's platinum selling "Stuff" CD. Holly's first EP "Sour Pie" was produced by Dale and released independently through Paradise Alley Productions. This resulted in a major label signing for Holly with Universal Records in New York. "Stuff" was nominated for the Best Alternative Album Juno and won a Juno for Best New Artist. Holly won Best New Solo artist from both CHR and Rock radio.

Producer Dale Penner is also the driving force behind Paradise Alley Productions, a combination production/artist development concept. Countless projects have benefited from Penner's production, including Nickelback's dynamic release "The State", which features the Billboard top 10 singles "Leader of Men" and "Breathe". Dale was directly involved with the development of Nickelback and together with his long time manager David Ehrlich brought the group to the A&R community. The Penner produced "The State" was certified Gold in the U.S. and Canada and is well on it's way to platinum.

Dale recently finished a project with Philly based The Red King (Sony Publishing, NY). The Red King recorded at Philly's Studio 4 with producers Dale Penner and Phil Nicolo. Also in the works: an exciting new west coast group called Sideshow - 2002 winners of the Vancouver Seeds Homegrown competition is on the artist development roster. Their single "A Tendency To Change" can be heard regularly on P1 station CFOX.
